Real Wedding: Amy & Sean

Amy & Sean’s wedding is the perfect embodiment of what a classic, traditionally romantic wedding should look like. So exquisite you could be forgiven for mistaking it for a styled wedding shoot. The parklands surrounding the Grade II Palladian mansion provided a stunning backdrop for this romantic affair.

We had only been together 6 months when Sean proposed! We met in May 2014 at We Are FSTVL in Essex!  I say we met there but we actually trained at the same gym and up until May had never spoken! I always used to look over at him in the gym and tell my friends how fit I thought he was, little did I know he had been doing the same.   We went to Thailand in December 2014 and it was there that he proposed, it was the last thing I ever thought would have happened as we hadn’t been together long, but when you know you just know!!

We married on 14th August 2016, I wouldn’t say that we had a theme as such or even a colour scheme. I started with one idea but ended up with something totally different. But I did want it to be a traditional, big white wedding and just to be girly and elegant. For us, we always said that one of the most important things to us was that we wanted everyone to walk away having had the best day, we are both very close to our friends and family so being with every person that you love on the biggest day of our life meant everything. No money can buy how it feels to be with every single person that loves and cares about you on your wedding day celebrating with you.

We married at Buxted Park Hotel, we only looked at one venue prior to that. It’s strange but a lady that I know also married there a few years ago and as soon as I saw her pictures I said that is where I want to get married, it truly is a beautiful venue, the grounds are stunning, and the staff are amazing  – it really was everything we dreamed of.

I purchased my dress from Bell’amoré in Bexleyheath, I knew from the minute we started to plan to marry the dress that I wanted – I think all in all I only tried on about 5 dresses. Bell’amoré were amazing and made me feel that I was amazing! They listened to everything I said that I wanted and didn’t want and hand on heart the first dress they pulled out was the one that I left with!  I cannot recommend them enough to any brides dress hunting.

Hair & makeup

I had my hair and makeup by Carly Turner – she really is the best and I know everyone says that. Not only did she do my hair and makeup so beautiful, she kept me so calm that morning I can’t thank her enough for that!! She truly was such a professional and made me look and feel amazing!

At the start Sean looked into having his suit made, we found that a lot of the high street hire companies didn’t fit and as much as a bride wants to feel amazing so does a groom. He ended up hiring his suits from Anthony’s Formal Wear in Essex, they were exactly what he would have chosen if he had got it made. Sean opted for a three piece suit and the ushers were in a two piece – they all looked very smart.

I had a disaster with my bridesmaid dresses. I went to a company that I paid for made to measure dresses and when they arrived they were 3 inches too short, this was the day that I actually cried!! With only 6 weeks to go until the big day, I headed to Bluewater and into Coast and there they were. The most elegant navy blue evening dresses – the girls looked stunning.

I didn’t want to spend thousands on flowers, I wouldn’t say that I am a flower girl. I always wanted something simple and elegant. I opted for cream roses and my bridesmaids had a smaller version of my bouquet. They were provided by the company that decorated my venue Pollen4hire – the guys there were just the best!! They might disagree with me as at one stage he said “he had never met a bride like me”- I think that was because I emailed him so much!!

As it was summer we went for food that would be pretty light, there is nothing worse than having a big heavy lunch! We had a goat’s cheese tart to start and then a chicken tarragon and veg as a main – for dessert, we served our own wedding cake!

I had a simple rose gold and cream three layered sponge cake, for us personally we didn’t feel that a wedding cake was a major part of our day, we found a lady that made our cake for half the price what I had been quoted, it’s crazy when you hear how much people charge! The funny thing was that when we cut through the cake we cut through the artificial part first by accident and all the small foaming fell out!!

I had the best bridesmaids ever! I am not the arty crafty type of person but luckily 2 of my bridesmaids were. When I initially looked at stationery I was being quoted over £400!  My bridesmaid worked in print at the time so she was able to have the wording to the invites professionally printed and then we spent hours lacing up invites and sticking embellishments on them – they were so lovely!

We had a live vocalist during the ceremony, and then whilst our guests were waiting as we had pictures we had a swing singer – both were amazing it was like they were part of the venue. In the evening, as well as our DJ we had a bongo player. This definitely helped get everyone in the mood to dance.

PHOTOGRAPHY & Videography

We had Jodie Morris as my photographer and Paul Harries as our videographer. Jodie is a friend of one of ours and I have always loved her style of photography, she is just outstanding, so natural. Paul was recommended to me by a friend and I can honestly say both was the best money we have ever spent – they captured so many happy memories for us that day.

We will remember that day forever. Both our families still cry when we talk about the day! For us it was realising how much people love you, to be under one roof with all your friends and family celebrating your new marriage is truly the best feeling we have both ever felt.

Looking back I see that at some stages Sean and I got lost in “the wedding”. It is so easy to get lost in wanting the best dress, wanting the best flowers etc, but on that day honestly all you care about is getting down that aisle to meet the person you have chosen to marry. All the stress and all the arguments (they will happen), go out the window! My advice is to not forget why you choose to get married and why you are doing it  – it’s about the two getting married nobody else and all that stress will mean nothing on the morning!
