Emma & Anthony wanted a relaxed wedding in an extremely special little hideaway in Lincolnshire, The Garden House. This particular quaint house is where Anthony grew up as a child whilst his parents ran the hotel, so I am sure you will agree, the perfect place for an authentic, intimate outdoor wedding for this lovely couple. They wanted a rustic, simple wedding and DIY‘d their hearts out to achieve their unique wedding style.
For a back garden celebration, spring is always a beautiful time of year and this pair chose the 31st May 2017 for their wedding. Emma took on the task of making her own stationery and with a little guidance from Polly&Me done an absolutely fabulous job. Glass jars filled with beautiful blooms from the wonderful Mandy at Stamford Flowers decorated the tables and matched Emma’s burgundy, hand-tied bouquet perfectly. Thank you to Sasha Lee for sharing such a lovely wedding with us.
Each year we go to Wales camping – this year we had decided to glamp near Mount Snowdon so that we could climb to the top. On the way home we stopped at the most stunning waterfall, Pistyll Rhaeador– the weather was incredible. We sat at the top looking over the valley and dipping our toes in. As we got up to leave Anthony got down on one knee.
I really wanted an outdoor, Pinterest worthy, rustic, classy wedding. We wanted it to be simple and had a burgundy colour theme running through.
I did all the wedding stationery myself following a modern calligraphy course by the very talented Polly&Me. In the September before our wedding we had moved house and 10 weeks before the wedding I was due to give birth (the venue was already booked by the time we found out!) so we were trying to keep costs to a minimum. The invites had flowers on them. The table plan was written on our bathroom mirror and the place names were on brown kraft card in tiny tree stump holders. I had also made a welcome sign for the guests and my friend had painted our order of the day.
We got married at The Garden House in Stamford. We chose this venue as it holds a special place in Anthony’s heart – he grew up there when it was a hotel as his parents ran it. It was a perfect venue because it meant that all the guests could stay overnight and we could hand pick our own staff (we work in the hospitality industry). It was incredible value for money and the outside space was simply gorgeous. The inside needed A LOT of work though. It is currently used as a football academy so we spent the day before stringing up fairy lights, moving sofas from the dining room, taking TVs off the wall and making it all look pretty.
I found my dress in a tiny discount shop that I probably would never have gone into if it wasn’t for the fact that I couldn’t get an appointment in the fancy shop and I was desperate to try on dresses! I really wanted an off the shoulder boho dress but I ended up with a sparkly princess style dress and I absolutely loved it! It was amazing value for money and the first shop I went to!
I did my make up myself and opted for a natural look. My mother in law did my hair – in plaits with the bottom curled. I finished my look with flowers in my hair supplied by our florist and burgundy shoes.
Our flowers were from Mandy at Stamford Flowers, they (and Mandy) were amazing – I wanted a burgundy, natural bouquet and she delivered just that. We had saved 30 pasta sauce jars and she filled them with little arrangements for the tables and we had pins for our parents and Anthony. She was 100% hassle free and knew exactly what I wanted.
Anthony bought his suit from next and obviously I had picked it!
The Pudding Pantry did our food and it was perfect! As big foodies, we wanted something special so we had a three-course meal in the day followed by a port and charcuterie platter in the evening.
The cake was also made by The Pudding Pantry and was totally perfect. The bottom layer was red velvet and the top layer was ginger (my fave). It was all covered with Italian meringue and decorated with edible flowers, macaroons and mini meringues.
I first saw Sasha Lee at a wedding fair in Derby and loved her style of photography – simple but elegant. She did not disappoint. We asked for natural photos of the day – not many posed ones. The photos were beautiful and she was brilliant – blending in with the guests and not pushing us.
The day was so relaxed and filled with love and laughter. It was absolutely the best day of my life.
