Real Wedding: Emma & Anthony

Real Wedding: Emma & Anthony

A sunny September outdoor wedding for Emma & Anthony with bright summer colours setting the tone.

The Engagement

Anthony definitely kept me waiting; we were together for 9 years before he proposed! But he still took me by surprise when he did it.  He took me out for dinner to one of my favourite restaurants and we had a lovely meal, I wouldn’t have guessed what was going to happen later as he was so normal during dinner like nothing was happening! He then went quite quiet on the drive home….must have been getting nervous!

As I walked into our house he had laid 9 long stem roses in a fan on the floor each with a small card at the top with lovely words written on it:

‘You make me smile, you make me laugh, my best friend, my world, you’re amazing, so special, you are the love of my life, you are the one for me, will you be my wife?’

He then went down on one knee and I cried and of course said yes!  We celebrated with many glasses of champagne after!  Our engagement was quite long; we got engaged in January 2015 and married in September 2016.

Our wedding date was 1st September 2016 at Channels Golf Club in Little Waltham, Essex.  We chose September as we were hoping for beautiful weather as we really wanted to get married outside.  We were so so lucky and we did get the most beautiful weather on our special day, we couldn’t have been happier! The wedding was originally going to stay at around 70 day guests but we ended up at over 90 in the end so the wedding was slightly bigger than we planned.  We didn’t really have a theme as such just nice bright summer colours and beautiful flowers.

As we were looking to have our ceremony outside we were limited to certain venues as not all offered this at the time but I think it is becoming more popular and a lot more venues are offering this now which is great as I would really recommend it (if you are lucky with the weather here in England!) Channels was the first venue we went to view and we fell in love with the beautiful grounds and everything it had to offer – none of the others we saw compared in our mind so we knew it was the right one for us.  We were looking for somewhere to have the whole wedding and not move onto another place for the reception.

My wedding dress came from Bellissima in South Woodham Ferrers, it’s a beautiful shop I couldn’t recommend it more.  I tried on about 6 dresses, all different styles and my dress was the last one I tried on.  I knew it was the one as I didn’t want to take it off!

Anthony and the groomsmen went to Moss Bros for their suits, they had a good deal if you hired a certain amount of suits then the grooms was free.  As we were hiring for Anthony, six groomsmen and two dads any saving was a help!

We had our bridesmaid dresses made by a local dressmaker in South Woodham Ferrers, Helen, who did an amazing job fitting the dresses perfectly to all 6 of my bridesmaids. We were so pleased with these – as were the girls!

Luckily some of my closest friends are hairdressers so they did mine and my six bridesmaids hair on the morning of the wedding.  The bridesmaids and I stayed at the venue the night before and in the morning our friends joined us bright and early and started putting up all of our hair – it was so much fun especially being with all of your closest family and friends.  I had a professional makeup artist, Sian, come in the morning also.

We are lucky to have a family friend who works in a florist, Meadow Croft, who has always done the flowers for any weddings in our family over the years so I didn’t have to worry too much about them as I knew they would look beautiful!  We met and Anthony and I ran through with her colours we liked and some photos of bouquets etc. and the rest were left in her capable hands and the flowers were stunning.

We put on canapés after the ceremony which went down a treat we hear! And our wedding breakfast was pâté/melon to start, chicken in a champagne and mushroom sauce for main and chocolate brownieEtonn mess for dessert.  the wedding cake was important to us and we chose a nice local company and took a design that we liked in there and asked her to make that and it looked beautiful.

The wedding cake was important to us and we chose a nice local company, Michelle’s Cake Parlour and took a design that we liked in there and asked her to make that and it looked beautiful.

We did order our wedding stationary online but ordered ‘make yourself’’ invites and then roped in the family to help us assemble them all.

We hired DJ for the evening, from Aurora Pearl. The weather worked well for us in the day and everyone just enjoyed their drinks and socialising in the sunshine.

Our wedding photographers were Bloomwood Photography – they were also the photographers for my sisters’ wedding last December.  They were recommended to us by a family friend and we were so pleased we chose them.  Emma and Ross at Bloomwood are so lovely and make you feel so comfortable which is all you want on your wedding day and deliver beautiful pictures.  We were also so pleased with how quickly we got to see our pictures, I’ve heard some people wait for months before they get theirs back and we got to see ours in a matter of weeks!  The package we chose was with a second photographer and also staying a few hours extra in the evening to get some evening pictures and a few shots of everyone dancing.

the honeymoon

We used Turquoise Holidays to book our honeymoon to Bali and also our gift list through.  We would highly recommend them; the staff were more than helpful there.

This is a tough one… everything really! All weddings are individual to the couple and I’m sure beautiful memories for everyone.

Just enjoy all of the planning and don’t get stressed! Try and involve whoever wants to get involved with the planning you can do with all of the help anyone offers – even if it’s just small things, it’s something small you won’t have to worry about.
