Faith & Dan

Real Wedding: Faith & Dan

A timeless classic and elegant wedding for Faith and her lucky number 7 complete with his perfectly timed engagement down to the hour.

The Engagement

When I first met Dan I called him my lucky number 7, purely because I did feel so genuinely lucky to have met him. After 11 months together we headed on our first holiday to Cyprus. On the fourth night of our holiday (7/7/12) Dan told me that he had information from the locals that there was going to be an eclipse that evening and we had to head out early to watch it. (Foolishly I fell for this hook line and sinker.) We walked down to the beach, picked a spot and I patiently waited for the “eclipse”. A few minutes later a waiter from our hotel walked down to meet us with champagne on ice. We popped open the bottle and toasted to a great first holiday.

I barely had my first sip, when to my complete surprise Dan got down on one knee and proposed with a beautiful thought out speech. No sooner than I could shout YES I heard screams and to my surprise my Mom and my Auntie came running up the beach wearing “Congratulations” t-shirts. Dan had flown them out two days prior and they had been secretly staying in the next hotel! It was a perfect night. Soon enough I realised that there was no eclipse and my Lucky 7 had carefully thought out his proposal to take place on the 7th day, of the 7th month at 7pm!

We got married in August 2014 after an engagement of nearly two 2 years. We wanted the wedding to be very traditional. We had 150 day time guest and an additional 100 evening guests.  I would describe my wedding as classic, elegant and traditional.

We were married at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church in Yardley Wood. We choose this church as it was extremely special to Dan’s family. This church holds dry special memories for Dan’s family. Our reception was held at Nailcote Hall in the Marquee and we booked a beautiful vintage car to take us there. We chose this venue as it had stunning grounds for our photographs.

I purchased my Enzoani, Fatima Gown from The Dressing Rooms in Halesowen. It was probably around the 10th dress I tried on! I choose this dress because I wanted a full gown and a long train, but also didn’t want the dress to be too big. It had a dropped waist which I really loved.

I had a bespoke jacket made from specially ordered Enzoani lace to match my gown as I wanted a different daytime and evening look without changing my dress.

Dan took along our fathers and all of his ushers and best men for a boy’s day and they eventually chose suits from Formal Affair. I knew Dan wanted a grey three price suit which worked with our colour scheme so I left him and the boys to it.

My bridesmaid’s dresses were bespoke made by Michelle at Second City Creations. They were a soft pink and wrapped at the back.

Allison Tye did my makeup along with my bridesmaids and my mom and I used Helena Sinclair for my hair. A friend did the hairs of my bridesmaids.

Karen Morgan at Passion for Flowers is who we used for our flowers. We chose Karen because after seeing her work at the wedding show I knew I wouldn’t be happy with any other florist. We chose sweet avalanche roses and hydrangeas to compliment the colour theme. She also provided us with the candelabras we used for our centrepieces.

We had a three-course wedding breakfast and an evening buffet. Our wedding cake was made by Di at Miss Lola’s Bakehouse.

Our wedding stationary was made my Karen Hussey Designs. Our invitations were designed around the quote “Once in a while, right in the middle of an ordinary life, love gives you a fairy-tale”

We wanted to have music all throughout our day. We had a good friend of ours sing in the church followed by a string quartet for our drinks reception. We topped it all off with Ashmore Acoustics for the evening live music and a DJ to follow.

We booked our photographer, Kirsty Whitaker, after meeting her at the Wedding show. Not only did we love her work we instantly clicked and I knew I would feel comfortable having Kirsty around on the biggest day of our lives.

My husband wrote me a poem and read it during his speech. I never expected that at all and it really touched my heart that he would do that for me.  But mainly it was just having everybody we loved and cared for in one room together on the happiest day of our lives!

When viewing venues write a tick list of everything your ideal venue would have. Ours included things such as a bar in the same room as we didn’t want our guests to be divided, rooms for guests to stay the night and beautiful grounds for photos etc. Each venue you visit tick off what it has to offer. Once you have viewed all the venues you like add up the ticks. That’s how we chose our venue and it really worked for us.
