Real Wedding: Jess & Chris

Real Wedding: Jess & Chris

Jess didn’t have the easiest of time planning her special day, but it all came together in the end! A beautiful purple and ivory wedding in New Zealand.

It wasn’t the most romantic proposal. It was expected as he had told me the next piece of jewellery he wanted to get me was a ring to go on my left hand, we had been together 6 years through high school, yes my high school sweethearts.  We got engaged in Hanmer springs in the hotel room and then went out for dinner, it was amazing in my eyes.

Our date was the 5th of November 2016, I always loved fireworks and always watched them with Chris. The most important thing was that the day was everything we dreamed of and it was. It was a wedding of around 80 people all up and 60 additional guests for the reception. We chose the colours purple, black and silver and the theme was glamourous (I like sparkles haha).

For the ceremony, we choose Westhaven Garden’s outdoor chapel in Christchurch. It was beautiful and we would highly recommend the venue. For our reception, we then moved to Prebbleton Hall, I would recommend it for a bride on a budget. It isn’t the most pretty place but you can really make it your own!

2 years before my wedding I saw an ad on Facebook advertising a $2000 bridal deal in which you got your dress, shoes, veil, 2 bridesmaids dresses and 3 ties to match – too good to be true right. My mother and I went and tried on dresses and I finally found a dress I liked so we bought the deal, it was a bit too soon to get sized up so I waited until Feb this year and that’s where the worrying came into play.  I had seen the episode on Fair Go about them ripping other brides off.

I then emailed them and no one got back to me and if they did it was weeks after and I had sent many emails to them, I had even threatened them that I would take them to Fair Go and through the courts. I was getting nowhere with them so I then told them a little white lie that my wedding had to be brought forward a couple of months. So then I got a fitting booked in with Simon the owner I then I went back and found the dress I loved and scratched the first dress I had picked. I then got sized up and she ordered no worries until my bridesmaid’s dresses came back sunflower yellow instead of purple so we got them re-ordered and they came back perfect everything else came in a timely manner and my dress was beautiful. Don’t get me wrong they have lovely dresses just the service is really bad and they have made a bad name for themselves.

The guys brought their own suits but I needed to be involved haha! They were purchased from Hallensteins.

For my hair, I booked Ooh LaLa Hairdressing, it was amazing! I had decided to get it dyed blonder for the wedding too and it looked perfect.

My Makeup was another gift from my dad and his wife. She wasn’t a company but my makeup was amazing and I was really pleased with how it turned out.

We only opted for bouquets and button holes. I wanted something simple so we went with cream and lilac roses, they were beautiful. We had some gems added in my roses also.

We used kiwi cuisine to cater for our dinner/ they were an amazing company – they communicated with us all the time about the different dishes and throughout the night.

I would highly recommend the bakery we got our wedding cake from, just desserts. Our cake was gifted to us from my dad and his wife, it and it was everything I had hoped for! I still have some in the freezer now.

To be honest, I didn’t have really have any because our venues were separate, we needed the time to travel from one to another.  We did book DJ Pulse for our reception and I would highly recommend him, we got exactly what we asked for.

So we had originally had another photographer lined up and had had an engagement shoot with her but In the meantime, I had also won an engagement shoot with Brydon Photography.  When we compared the photos with our first shoot we just loved Toms work better than our original photographer so we went with tom.  He was amazing, he was with us for over 12 hours and he knew exactly what we wanted.

Well throughout different stages of the planning I had thought at various times it wasn’t going to come out how I had wanted to.  But, it all came together and I will never forget my wedding day.

My advice get a planner to do it all for you haha!
